Ambient Mobile Phones & Portable Devices Driver
OnePlus is now rolling out the new Ambient Mode for Google Assistant on its smartphones. The new mode was first introduced by Google with the Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab and the Smart Tab M8. Google Assistant’s Ambient Mode option is enabled when a supported device is plugged in for charging and it basically enables a smart display like UI. Users will be shown notifications and information from various apps in a slightly more prominent manner in this mode. One will also be able to control their music, smart home devices and turn their phone into a digital photo frame. OnePlus 3 and above phones are now receiving the new mode in a phased manner.
It should be noted that the rollout is staged, which means some users might get the feature before others. Google Assistant’s Ambient Mode is compatible with devices running Android 8 and above. The new mode was announced with the Lenovo Smart Tab M8 HD and Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab tablets last year when they are docked for charging. Later, it was rolled out for some Nokia smartphones like the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 8.1, and more. You can check out the entire list here. Also, check out the video below to get a gist of how the new mode works.
After one receives the update, one needs to head over to Settings to activate the new mode. Go over to Settings and access Account Services in the Google option. Here, under Search, navigate to Assistant & Voice, tap on Google Assistant, then Assistant and scroll down to Assistant device to find the option ‘Phone’. The option, if enabled for your device, will be listed here. Alternatively, when one plugs in their OnePlus handset, they should receive a notification that should take you through the setup process.
Improvements and fixes
This update includes a fix for an incorrect device driver (“Microsoft – WPD – 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM - 5.2.5326.4762”) that was released by a third-party on March 8, 2017 that affected a small group of users with USB connected phones or other media devices that rely on Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). If the driver is on your system, when any of these devices are connected, Windows will try to install this driver. These devices will not be connected until the driver is removed. This incorrect driver was removed from Windows Update the same day, but it may have been downloaded to your computer. After installing this update the incorrect driver will be removed.
How to get this update
This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update. To get the stand-alone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
If you are not able to connect your phone or media device via USB and are not running one of these Windows versions, you can still remove this driver using the process described here:
Hence, you need to update and install proper driver for your Android phone/tablet. Open Device Manager: for Windows 7, go to Start Control Panel System and Security System Device Manager; for Windows 8/10, press “Windows + X”, then click “Device Manager”. Find and expand “Other devices” or “Portable devices” and find your device. Smartphones and Tablets are all used under a very wide range of ambient lighting conditions that are frequently much brighter than for other displays – like laptops, desktops, and HDTVs. The screens reflect a considerable amount of the surrounding light, which washes out the images you are trying to see. Each BOOST portable SSD includes two 18' USB cables to maximize connectivity. One, a 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1) USB-A to Micro-B cable for use in any standard USB port. The other, a 3.1 USB-C to Micro-B cable for use in newer desktops, expansion cards, laptops, and mobile devices that have a USB-C port.
